Access Wisconsin is one of the
managing partners of the BCN, the BadgerNet Converged Network, representing
and facilitating the video and data transmission within Wisconsin's
Independent Telephone Companies to serve our educational and government end
users. Along with our Independent Telco subcontractors, and our other
industry partners (ATT, CenturyTel, Norlight and Verizon) we created the
WBAA, the Wisconsin BadgerNet Access Alliance. We successfully won the
state bid in 2005 and transformed over 2000 sites in all 72 counties to our
high bandwidth, high speed video and data network. The beneficiaries of
this network are two fold: Wisconsin education community - the K-12,
technical colleges, UW campuses, private colleges; and the agencies that
make up state government. We believe this converged network is the largest
and most sophisticated of its kind in the country. Access Wisconsin is
proud to be part of this remarkably successful endeavor.
Access Wisconsin traces its history back
to 1987 when Wisconsin Independent Telephone companies banded together to
offer their customers and clients an efficient and effective way to provide
collective services. Over the years Access Wisconsin reputation evolved
into Wisconsin's premiere Video Distance Learning Integrator, specializing
in offering "single point of contact" management services to both the
educational community and our member companies.
In 1992, Access Wisconsin partnered with
NWECS in northwest Wisconsin to launch the second full motion, digital,
fiber optic, Video Distance Learning network in the state. This achievement
was followed by the successful implementation of other networks... WestWING,
WONDER, SCING and Northern Lights.
In 1998, concentrating on our core
business, Access Wisconsin partnered with Ameritech (now ATT) and GTE (now
Verizon) to bid on the state of Wisconsin's BadgerNet Video offering to the
state's K-12 districts, UW system campuses, Wisconsin Technical College
System, Tribal Colleges and Private Colleges. As the successful bidder,
Access Wisconsin integrated the legacy networks with the new BadgerNet
network. Combined, these networks seamlessly inter-connect Video Distance
Learning offerings to over 400 participating educational institutions.
And now in 2006 we continue to achieve
remarkable success in facilitating the convergence of the legacy video
network with the legacy data network resulting in the 2000 site BadgerNet
Converged Network!
